The Man Behind the ISM Mission

T. K. V. Rajan, an archaeologist (1) (2) and a media personality is the Founder – Director of Indian Science Monitor and Indo-Asian Foundation of Archaeological Research. The Foundation conducts expeditions and interactions with archaeologists from different Asian countries to strengthen age-old cultural ties among Asian countries. (3) (4).

As an archaeologist, T.K.V. Rajan explored the sites that are associated with the Mahabharata epic and brought out a book “In Search of Krishna” which was launched by the Former Chief Justice of India Sri. M.N. Venkatachaliah in Bangalore in 2018.

His audio-visual exhibitions presented for the concerned public have created an impressive impact on the viewers. His archaeological exhibition “In Search of Krishna” was exhibited in Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Mayapur and Dallas, which received positive reviews from the press. (5),(5A)

His presentation on “Ancient Tamil Civilization in Sri Lanka”, brought out the message of why India and Sri Lanka should come together beyond political boundaries for conserving the age-old link. Reviews about this exhibition appeared favourably both in India and Sri Lanka. (2)(3)(4).

In 2012, Rajan had launched a Students’ Awareness Archaeology Project entitled “Kashmir the Crown of India” and he explored Kashmir valley and brought out TV serials on “Kashmir the Crown of India” and “In Search of Sharada Civilization “for Sri Sankara TV. His book “Incredible Kashmir” along with the exhibits was launched by the Governor of Tamilnadu Sri Banwarilal Purohit in Chennai in 2017 (6).On 14th August 2020, his students’ awareness book “Kashmir the Crown of India” was released by the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, Tamilnadu. Rajan visited USA between 2016 and 2019 and presented PowerPoint presentations on “Mahabharata and Krishna” to various associations and Hindu temples. (6A) He gave a weekend talk on Dallas Tamil Radio on “Glorious World of Tamils based on archaeological research”. (6B) He unveiled “Christ and Krishna – a curious archaeological presentation at Ramakrishna Vedantha Society, Irvine, USA which explored the recent archaeological research of these Great Gods. He also released his revised DVD on “Adichanallur, the Cradle of Tamil Civilization” in Dallas.

In 2017, he released a video “Hollywood Nostalgia-Impact of Hollywood movies on the traditional Indian Moviegoers” in Glasgow, Kentucky, at the memorial of famous Hollywood musician Billy Vaughan, who was also popular in India. (7)

In 2014, he launched a non-religious patriotic mission ” Bhale Bharath” in Bangalore which was inaugurated by the former Solicitor General of India, Sri. Santosh Hegde. The aim of this mission is to bring out the original history of India by collecting data from various historical sources and by utilizing technological tools. YouTube video link: As the founder-Director of Indian Science Monitor, Rajan took interest in the science behind the popular game cricket, he conceptualized a novel exhibition “Great cricket controversies and science behind it” at Russian Center for Science and Culture in 2011 in Chennai. It had attracted huge cricket fans. The Times of India reviewed the exhibition and interviewed Rajan.” There is not enough research in the field of cricket in India. Countries like England and West Indies conduct a lot of research on various scientific factors affecting batting, the spin of the ball and pitch conditions. Cricket, in India, is no longer a just game. Cricket generates Rs 2400 crore revenue every year, but our scientists and professors don’t find time to research cricket.”

T.K.V. Rajan launched an educative project on " Industrial Archaeology " which concentrates on reviving the old industries that flourished in ancient times for the welfare of the present-day. This project was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister for Archaeology, Thiru Thangam Thenarusu.

Sixteen years ago, Rajan has constituted Sir J. C . Bose Memorial Award and till now more than 50 eminent luminaries have been awarded for their contribution in the field of Science and Technology, Education, Environment Science, Agriculture, Social Sciences, etc.

The impact of television programmes on society always fascinates Rajan. He conceptualized and organized a Gallup poll on “A study of the portrayal of women characters in popular TV serials”. The poll claimed that women are negative stereotypes in most programmes and warned that this trend could unleash sociological havoc in the long run. The result of this poll was published in leading newspapers and it is still being discussed on social media. (7A)

T.K.V.Rajan is the author of 5 books including “Kanchi to Cambodia- Greater India Re-visited”(8) and “Kashmir, the Crown of India and Sri Lanka- Cultural and Strategic importance” which was released by Dr Rama Jois, former Governor of Sikkim and Bihar in Bangalore in the year 2016. Presently, T. K. V. Rajan is working on a project “The sunken cities of Sangam Age Sites- A Threshold to Kumaraikkandam.(9)

Earlier, T. K. V. Rajan worked as a producer for Sun TV and produced several documentaries. He conceptualized and anchored a very popular serial “Cinema Quiz” for 117 weeks with the academic standard. Later, he joined as the Chief Producer for Raj TV Network and he was instrumental in introducing several Live programmes, including a quiz on Science & Technology. In 2013, to celebrate "100 Years of Indian Cinema ", Rajan presented a TV serial on Sri Sankara TV inviting leading Kannada film personalities.
